Are You Praying the Psalms? Part 2
by Janis Cox
Last week I talked about the power of praying a Psalm – the first Psalm.
Today I looked at Psalm 2. I chose a few sections and made prayers.
Why do the nations conspire
and the peoples plot in vain?
Father, You tell us to pray for those in authority – even those who do not follow you. Even when they lie, they conspire, they cheat and they don’t follow Your laws.
Others want to bring them down –
Let us break their chains
and throw off their shackles.
but You, Lord, You tell us to pray for them and you laugh.
The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord scoffs at them.
You laugh because You know the outcome. We do not need to fear. We need to ask for Your help and pray.
and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.
And we pray that You will rule with an iron sceptre (Revelation 12:5)
And we pray for the rulers of people. We pray for them to:
Serve the Lord with fear
and celebrate his rule with trembling.
And we thank You that we are yours and we take refuge under Your wings.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
Father, thank You for Your Word. Thank You that we can pray Your Word back to You. We pray for all those in authority, that they will hear Your voice, that they will become wise in how to rule. We pray in Your Son’s Name, Jesus. AMEN.
