The Mystery Behind the Wall

I wasn’t there but the nurse who sat with my niece as she took her last breath said she’d never seen anyone slip from life to death so peacefully.
My niece was born with a severe form of spina bifida that attacked her brains’ stem. At six months, doctors removed 50% of her brain. No one thought she’d live but she did for twenty-one years.
My niece never spoke, never cried, never walked or did many of the things that we would connect with quality of life. She did however, impact everyone who met her. There was something about her blue eyes that looked at you with an unconditional love. I wonder about her conversations with God.
At her memorial, the tributes spoke of a life that touched others in ways few of us ever experience. I believe my niece loved God. It showed in her face every time she heard a song about Jesus. It showed in her grace as she endured many painful medical procedures. It showed in the lives that were changed just by being around her.
She’s gone home and the world is an emptier place without her. I can’t help but feel a prayer warrior has gone home.

My niece was very special and I will miss her. Thanks for you encouragement and prayers. I know I look at special needs people with a new understanding because of my interactions with my niece.
